The real cat behind the Siamese super cat

Sasha is beautiful. Sasha is brilliant. Sasha is brave. And Sasha would like everyone to know that absolutely nothing happens in her house without her knowledge or approval.

She is a talkative Siamese cat with bright blue eyes, a powerful sense of responsibility, and opinions about nearly everything. In our family, we call her “girlfriend.” She answers frequently, follows us from room to room, and considers herself an essential participant in all household activities.

She is also the inspiration for Super Sasha: Tales of a Siamese Super Cat.

Sasha’s official responsibilities

As a senior member of the household, Sasha has assigned herself several important duties:

• Supervising all trips to the garden

• Inspecting anything brought into—or moved around—the house

• Objecting loudly when furniture is rearranged without her consent

• Monitoring the humans from strategically selected sleeping locations

• Ensuring that no bathroom visit takes place without feline assistance

• Maintaining her beautiful Siamese hairdo

• Investigating suspicious noises, insects, boxes, bags, and closed doors

She takes these responsibilities very seriously. The humans do not always demonstrate an appropriate level of gratitude.

From real cat to super cat

The idea for Super Sasha began with my son, who wondered what might happen if Sasha became a superhero. The answer seemed obvious: she would be fearless, magnificent, and completely convinced of her own expertise—even when the evidence suggested otherwise.

Two days later, Sasha had her first book.

The fictional Sasha shares the real Sasha’s confidence, curiosity, talkative personality, and devotion to her boy. Both versions believe they are responsible for protecting their people. Both are occasionally startled by the very things they intend to investigate. Neither considers this a contradiction.

Sasha’s rules for humans

Rule No. 1: All furniture arrangements must receive feline approval.

Rule No. 2: Gardening requires direct supervision.

Rule No. 3: Closed doors are unacceptable.

Rule No. 4: If a human is sitting down, a lap should be available.

Rule No. 5: Being startled does not mean one was scared.

Rule No. 6: When in doubt, remember: Sasha is a highly trained professional.

Sasha lives in Maryland with her family and continues to provide inspiration for future adventures. She is pleased that her remarkable life is finally receiving the literary attention it deserves.
